Dublin 8 is the sweet spot between old and new, with an eclectic mix of antique shops, vintage boutiques, art galleries, bars and cafés. The National College of Art and Design and Vicar Street events venue have cemented the area’s reputation for creativity and innovation, but traditional charm still remains with family run businesses and rows of red-brick cottages. Plus Dublin’s most popular attractions are right on the doorstep including the Guinness Storehouse, Christchurch Cathedral and Dublin Castle.

If you appreciate a good church you’re in luck. Dublin’s two magnificent cathedrals are on your doorstep. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a Neo-Gothic style beauty with a wild-flower filled park beside it. Just up the road you’ll find Christ Church Cathedral, a stunner inside and out complete with picture-perfect medieval bridge and museum in the crypt. Check their websites for special events and opening hours. Dublinia Viking Museum is another must-see. Step back in time and stand in the shoes of a Viking in Medieval Dublin, learning about customs, weaponry and traditional clothing.

Balance out your day with a trip to Dublin’s number one attraction, the one and only Guinness Storehouse. Learn all about the black stuff, try pulling a pint yourself and even get your face printed on the Guinness cream! The self-guided tour finishes with a free drink in the gravity bar, with a 360 view of Dublin city. For something a little stronger the Teelings’ Distillery is also in the neighbourhood. Sample Ireland’s ‘uisce beatha’ (water of life) and join a guided tour of the distillery process.

For a more traditional pub scene, head to Spitalfields. While it’s cozy and unassuming, expect food that will knock your socks off. With specialties such as roast bone marrow and Wicklow venison it’s hard to go wrong. Finish off your Dublin 8 food tour with Variety Jones. This Michelin starred restaurant serves a 6 course set meal extravaganza for meat lovers everywhere. Its minimalist, trendy décor makes it the perfect date night spot.

You’re in the right part of town for a cheeky drink. Sip craft beers and cocktails alongside art students at The Magnet. This newly opened bar has an incredible sound system and retro fittings throughout. Next head to Francis street for a side of cabaret with your drink. Drop Dead Twice an alternative bar with live music, dance shows, comedy and bespoke cocktails. Nearby you’ll find Lucky’s, home of Coke Lane Pizza and craft markets. Get their pizza + beer deal and soak up the fun-loving atmosphere. They serve prosecco on tap so you know they mean business.
